T-SHIRTS
People were given UNITED T-shirts.  If there wasn’t the right size available, people were able to sign up as there will be another order placed very soon.   The shirts are hand-made by Freeset, a non-profit organization based in Kolkata, India.  The sizes run smaller than American shirt sizes.  So, if you normally wear a Large, unless you like wearing your shirts small and skin tight, consider getting a X-Large.

WELCOME
Curtis welcomed everyone to the very first UNITED Family Meeting.  The UNITED Family consists of people serving in the individual Worship Bands, as well as Chapel Choir, Creative Planning, Fine Art,  Graphic Design, Sacred Dance, Theatre, Tech,  and Video teams.  This was our first meeting as a UNITED Family.

Meeting schedules were handed out.  There will be monthly Family wide meetings from 10:15 – 11am on the last Thursday of every month.  These meetings are to build our unity through communication and release information.  Then, that evening, there will be a Family Bonding activity to build our unity through fellowship.  If you want to view a list of upcoming meetings, click here.

MINISTRY MISSION & VISION

MINISTRY ORGANIZATION
Chris & Curtis explained how UNITED is structured organizationally.  Below is a basic outline of how UNITED is designed and operates.

ARTS – Chris LaRue, Producer/ Chapel Worship Coordinator oversees this.
Teams include:
Creative Planning, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Sacred Dance, Tech, Theatre, Video Production, and collaborative partnerships with the appropriate Academic Departments

MUSIC – Curtis Hunt, Worship Pastor  oversees this.
Teams include:
Worship Bands, Chapel Choir (under the direction of Nancy Ellis), and a collaborative partnership with the Music Department – including ensemble participation in Chapel Worship (Bethel Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble)

Chapel Planning Process
Every week, the Creative Planning Team brainstorms creative elements for Chapels two weeks out.  After decisions are finalized with the appropriate speakers, elements are handed off to the appropriate teams for preparation, and then of course ministry implementation in Chapel two weeks later.

UNITED STUDENT LEADERS
The UNITED Student Leaders for 2009 – 2010 were introduced.  They are as follows:

FINE ARTS: Joel McDougall

GRAPHICS: Leah Sands

MUSIC: Christopher Erickson, Allison Lukens, Jonathan Reynolds, Steven Soderlund, Shelly Wilson

SACRED DANCE: Kirstyn Erickson, Jenna Gaalswyk, LD Libra

TECHNICAL ARTS: Stacey Britt

THEATRE: Kayla Hambek, Brendan Veerman

VIDEO: Todd Isaacs

These leaders were given opportunity to share their insight on defining what our Family culture will be for this year.  They were polled prior to the meeting, and posed three questions: Why do you serve in UNITED?, What fruit do want to see this year?, and How is the Bethel Community responding to our ministry? UNI: search for identity
Following a video with some of the above responses, the Student Leaders led in presenting their desire for how our ministry will be known.  This took the form of everyone working on a word-find, searching for each value as it was discussed.  Below are a list of the “Family Values”, that as a ministry, we want to be recognized as in the Bethel Community.

• UNITY: being united through Christ to each other despite our differences, or disagreements.  Respecting each other for the good of all.
• EXPERIENCE: Unity with God.  Personal experience with God through our ministry
• HUMILITY: Pursuing humility through serving our teams, as well as in performance
• INTEGRITY: Integrity
• LOVE: showing love, being self-sacrificial.  Letting go of personal agendas, pride, and the need for recognition
• JOY: Expressing joy in what we do
• PURITY: seeking, living, pursuing a pure heart, mind, and lifestyle
• FAMILY: Commit to each other through support and encouragement
• COMMUNITY: Valuing Justice, through worship, community, and reconciliation
• INCLUSIVE: Being intentional about inclusivity to the entire community – socially – to avoid the appearance of a club.  That we would share an attitude of approachability
• GRACIOUS: Being gracious and forgiving; living in God’s mercy and grace and affording it to others.
• TRANSPARENCY: Show vulnerability, and being transparent on stage
• LISTENING: Listening to perceptions and suggestions from the community; honoring people by allowing them to be heard.
• BOLD: Being bold and speaking truth
• CONFIDENCE: Being confident in meeting God’s expectations first and foremost
• COMMITMENT: Being reliable, and having follow through, showing commitment
• APPROACHABLE: That we are seen as approachable
• SKILLFUL: that we would be skillful and tasteful in our craft, pursuing excellence and artistic confidence

CLOSING
Following this presentation, we finished our time together by watching a video reminding us who the object of our worship should be.  We followed this video up by worshiping together as a group by singing “Made to Worship.”
